IMPACTFUL CAREER STRATEGIES

LEARN TO MAXIMISE THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF YOUR CAREER

FIND OUT YOUR NEXT STEPS TOWARDS MAKING AN IMPACT

You have 80,000 hours in your career.

Let's use them to help solve the world’s most pressing problems.

The programme

Impactful Career Strategies is a programme created by the Positive Impact Society Erasmus to help students find a fulfilling career that creates social impact. In this 7-week programme, students will team up in small groups of approximately 5 students with similar interests. Using the 80.000 hours method, a tutor will guide the group through creating their very own career plan. At the end of the programme, you will have taken the first steps in your career plan and have new connections to help you on your way!

The programme is based on an impact-focused career planning method developed in collaboration with researchers at Oxford University. Students from all different faculties at EUR have worked together with a group of social psychologists to tailor the method to be extra fun and engaging for the students of Rotterdam.

ARE YOU READY TO KICKSTART YOUR FUTURE?

WHAT PRE-TESTERS HAD TO SAY

Wessel:

“It’s like a goldmine”

“It gave me so many useful resources for exploring different career paths and figuring out if I’d be a good fit in it. I learned about possible career paths which I had never considered or even heard about. You just don’t learn this stuff in your regular studies.”

“Thought provoking”

“There were many surprising moments. It is such a nice feeling when you think that something works one way, but then you find out you can see things in a whole new way”

Leila:

“It’s like a guide to walk the talk”

“When talking about social issues, you can have a lot of discussions. It is easy to get stuck in that. With this approach, you keep a lot of room for reflection and nuance, but it doesn't stop there: it helps you to focus and narrow down your options, and it encourages you to take action and to get out there in the real world. “

Time to take action.

You graduate from this programme by taking a step on the “test ladder”. This is a series of real-world steps you can take to find out if the career path you are envisioning is right for you. Examples of steps on the test ladder are interviewing someone in your dream job or masters programme, setting up a work sample at an organization, or applying to an internship.

Commitment.

You have 80.000 hours in your career. In theory, this means that if you could make it 1 percent more impactful or enjoyable, this would be worth spending 800 hours on…. Lucky for you, this programme is designed to increase the impact and enjoyment in your career by far more than that; in just 25 hours of time commitment.

The programme takes 7 weeks, from May 3rd to the 20th of June onwards. In your application, you can indicate which evenings you would be available. The weekly online sessions take 1,5 hours each and you can expect around 2 hours of preparation per week.

We expect participants to come to the sessions prepared and engaged. To graduate from the programme students have to take a real word step (such as an interview with someone in a possible career path or setting up a worksample/day-in-the-life experience in a study programme or career path you are considering ). At most, students are allowed to miss one of the sessions.

Throughout the programme there will be socials, network opportunities, and inspiring talks from working proffesionals. Participants are highly encouraged to join these to get the most out of the programme.

NEW PROGRAMME DATES WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON.
