PISE Board II

2021/2022

After our first year online, this second group of people came together to successfully guide the transition from online to offline events for the first time. Although met with ongoing pandemic restrictions the second board managed to engage a big, enthusiastic community of students from all around the world, with different study backgrounds in what it means to do good effectively. They are proud of the countless ambitious people with whom we are becoming better at making the world a better place.

Joris Pijpers

Joris is entering his second year on PISE's Board, this time as the chair. He’s really excited about Effective Altruism as it is one of the best ways to help people deal with the overwhelming amount of problems in this world, and offers concrete ways to do a lot of good. Within EA, Joris is specifically interested in community building and animal welfare, and outside of EA he keeps busy with studying PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) at EUC (Erasmus University College) and with running, not finishing longreads and getting lost in the YouTube vortex. Joris is proud to be part of the inspiring PISE community and excited to introduce more people on our campus to Effective Altruism!

Roos Van der Velde

Coming from a wealthy, happy & privileged background, Roos has been thinking about how she can help others ever since her pre-teen years. She decided to study at Erasmus University College, where Roos is happily following the Public & Global Health track. When she learned about EA, it felt like she discovered some hidden gold. EA has helped her with discovering how she can help and support as many people as possible within the Global Health field. This board year has been an exciting challenge, where Roos found herself being surrounded by like-minded people who were looking for the similar challenge of helping as many people as possible. She is grateful that she can help PISE grow, and is proud to see all of our achievements.

Sarah Fürstenberg

Sarah has been involved in PISE since its founding year, in the career and the fundraising committee, before she decided to become a board member. She was inspired by the community which had a culture of learning and pushing new boundaries. Sarah is studying Management of International Social Challenges and hopes to continue her journey according to and within EA values.

Mathijs Otten

Combining my love for Gods wonderfully created humans and effective mindset, EA has become an amazing tool to be effective in putting love into action. At PISE, Mathijs has found people who are willing to make personal sacrifices to change the world with their limited capacities. Using Data Science, he is pursuing an ‘Earn to Give’ career that might change to research in effective healthcare or any other cause area that might pop up to meet both his interests and requires Data Scientists. Mathijs is grateful that EA helps him find fitting ways to meet Jesus' request to "love others as myself", like he loves him.

Lisanne Van Den Bosch

Working several volunteer jobs, Lisanne has been dedicated to helping people ever since she was little. Before finding PISE she was discouraged about the amount of problems in the world and how much she could really do to be part of the solution. When she found PISE and Effective Altruism, everything clicked for her. She was inspired by the altruistic and always knowledge seeking community at PISE and the passion for maximizing impact. In PISE’s first year, Lisanne became involved in the career committee and started the fundraising committee with Sarah. This year, as a board member and leader of the In Depth committee, Lisanne is grateful and excited to help the PISE community and members grow.
